Lip filler in Wolverhampton: what to expect, start to finish

Lip filler is the treatment we are asked about most at our Tettenhall Wood clinic, and the treatment people are most nervous about. Almost all of that nervousness comes from not knowing what actually happens. So here is the whole thing, appointment to final result.

Choosing how much lip filler you need

Most first-time clients do not need a full millilitre. Half a millilitre placed well will hydrate the lip, tidy the border and correct a small asymmetry without anybody being able to tell you have had anything done. A full millilitre gives visible volume and is the usual choice for a second appointment, or for lips that have naturally thinned with age.

If you have had filler elsewhere and it has migrated above the lip line, the honest answer is often dissolving first and rebuilding afterwards. We would rather tell you that at consultation than stack more product on top of a poor base.

Russian lips versus classic technique

Classic lip filler is placed horizontally along the lip to add general volume. The Russian technique places small amounts vertically from the wet line outward, lifting height into the lip rather than pushing it forward. The result is a flatter profile from the side, a defined cupid's bow and more visible lip when you look straight on.

Russian lips suit people who want definition and height rather than pout. They take longer, they swell more in the first 48 hours, and they need a practitioner trained specifically in the technique. Our team trained in it through leading UK providers and it remains one of our most requested treatments.

Does lip filler hurt?

Less than people expect. We apply strong numbing cream and leave it on properly — usually twenty minutes — and the fillers we use contain lidocaine, so the lip numbs further as treatment progresses. Most clients describe pressure rather than pain. If you are anxious, tell us; we will slow the appointment down.

Swelling and the healing timeline

Day one to two is the peak — lips look considerably bigger than the final result and this is entirely normal. Day three to four the swelling drops sharply. Small lumps you can feel but not see are common in the first week and almost always settle. By day fourteen you are looking at your true result, which is exactly why we review you at two weeks.

Do not book lip filler within three weeks of a wedding, holiday or event. Everybody who ignores this regrets it.

Aftercare that actually matters

No alcohol for 24 hours, no gym or hot yoga for 48, no saunas, sunbeds or facials for two weeks, and avoid dental work for a fortnight either side. Sleep slightly elevated on the first night, use a cold compress rather than ice directly on the skin, and keep the lips moisturised. Cold sore sufferers should tell us at consultation so antivirals can be arranged in advance.

How long does lip filler last?

Six to twelve months for most people. Lips are one of the most mobile areas of the face, so filler breaks down faster there than in the cheeks or jaw. Metabolism, how much you exercise and the product used all change the number. Most of our clients top up every eight to nine months.

Consultations are free. Book online, call 01902 238850, or email contact@cliniquemodele.com.
